William N. Ivers (“Bill”) is an attorney in Mallor Grodner LLP’s business and professional practice services division, representing many of the firm’s automotive clients. Bill has been involved with both new and used vehicle dealerships, since 1989, providing general business counsel and guidance to dealership owners and managers to help them navigate the ocean of legal issues faced by motor vehicle dealers. He has represented new and used auto dealers before state and federal courts, administrative agencies, and in arbitrations.
In addition to counseling dealerships, Bill has provided representation and been involved with business and litigation matters for motor vehicle dealerships throughout Indiana. His experience ranges from the formation and licensing of a dealer business entities, the acquisition or sale of assets, and the application, transfer or termination of franchise rights under a manufacturer’s sales and service agreement. Bill also has represented the rights and interests of dealerships in a variety of state and federal court and administrative actions, including those involving consumer, employee, insurer, lender, manufacturer and governmental actions. Because of his years of representing dealers and the myriad of legal issues, Bill can handle almost every legal challenge faced by a dealership.
Bill enjoys the wide variety of opportunities that representation of motor vehicle dealerships entails. This area of practice continues to allow him to learn something new each day, and he enjoys contributing to the education of dealer businesses by preparing articles and presenting seminars to owners and managers on many of the issues and concerns faced by motor vehicle dealerships.
Bill’s representation of automobile dealership businesses provides him with the foundational knowledge to counsel and represent other closely held businesses and their owners. He has represented retail, manufacturing, service and construction industry businesses, and has pursued and defended cases in trial and district courts throughout Indiana. Bill has also represented clients in appellate matters, including matters appealed or petitioned to the Indiana Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Indiana Supreme Court, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Bill earned his JD at Valparaiso University School of Law and completed a clerkship with Chief Judge Wesley W. Ratliff, Jr., of the Indiana Court of Appeals. He is a member of the National Association of Dealer Counsel, a non-profit professional organization of attorneys committed to the representation and protection of motor vehicle dealership businesses and their owners.
